  21. I was finally able run xdvik and have it find the pk font files.

  23. My problem was the way I specified XDVIFONTS.  I tried what was
  24. automatically generated by xdvik-1.8 :
  25. $XDVIFONTS=/usr/TeX/lib/tex/fonts/pk/%f.%p

  27. I also tried 
  28. $XDVIFONTS=/usr/TeX/lib/tex/fonts/pk/%f.%d%p
  29. which is very explicit and really should have worked from the
  30. description in the man pages.

  32. The xdvi man entry when talking about the environment variable
  33. "XDVIFONTS" states that "If no "%f" appears in the string, then the
  34. string "/%f.%d%p" is added on the end."  I assumed that if the
  35. assignment was explicit that it would accept it because there is a %f
  36. in the string.  That assumption was wrong.  The setting that finally
  37. worked was
